Event Details

We have been delighted with the take-up for the SLHF visit to Trinity House on 2nd May and the available places have now all been taken. Places were strictly limited and were allocated on a first come first served basis. Details will be sent out shortly to those who have been successful(and those on the waiting list). In the light of the popularity of this event we are looking at running the event again in the autumn (date tba). If you have not already completed an application form but may be interested in a visit to Trinity House in the autumn, please register your interest as this will help us gauge demand for another visit through Contact Form and select Events for type of enquiry.

The origins of Trinity House can be traced to 1380, although the present remarkable building was constructed in 1816. Founded by shipowners and shipmasters of Leith to assist destitute sailors and their families, the incorporation developed to improve safety and training for mariners. With interesting maritime collections, mostly donated by the members, this is a fascinating place to visit. In addition to a private tour of the collection, Eric Graham will also give a talk on the history of the Leith smacks, which provided the first scheduled passenger service to London with reference to ships models, programmes and advertisements in the Trinity House collection. The tour and talk will be followed by a walking tour of Leith harbour. There will be free time at lunchtime for delegates to obtain their own refreshments.
