Baldernock Local History Group

About this Organisation

Baldernock is a small rural parish to the north of Glasgow, between Milngavie and Torrance in East Dunbartonshire. It has a rich legacy of agriculture, vernacular buildings, mining, water mills, flax processing and the designed landscape policies of an estate. The local history group holds monthly talks between Autumn and Spring and occasional walks, all largely focused on the history of Baldernock and neighbouring areas. Group members are actively investigating the area's history using archival research, field mapping, excavation and earth sciences approaches. The results of this work are regularly published in Vernacular Building (the journal of the Scottish Vernacular Building Working Group), in Scottish Local History (the journal of the Scottish Local History Forum), and in Sheetlines (the journal of the Charles Close Society for the Study of Ordnance Survey Maps). We do not hold any objects or archives related to Baldernock's history but welcome enquiries and information on the history of the parish.
