Bernera Historical Society

About this Organisation

Great Bernera is a small island on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, connected to the mainland by a bridge. The local Historical Society holds collections of Bernera family genealogical records, Bernera croft records, photography collections of the people and history of Bernera, Iron Age artefacts from the Bosta dig, as well as telling the story of Bernera using information boards and slide shows. We operate a small independent and fully accredited museum within the Bernera Community Centre as well as the reconstruction of an Iron Age House at Bosta Beach where an Iron Age Village was found and dug in the 1990.
