The Bothwell Historical Society (founded in 2011) closed in 2020, due to lack of volunteers to assist in its administration.

Bothwell has a long and interesting history including a Parish Church and a castle.The village has seen agriculture, weaving and coal mining all come and go but today it is mostly a residential locale.
