Strachur & District Local History Society

About this Organisation

Our local history society was started in 2007 with the aims of collecting and disseminating information about the history of the village of Strachur and other settlements in our region of the Cowal penninsular and east Loch Fyne.

Our interests embrace all aspects of local history from ancient times to the 20th century.

We currently have a membership of 80 and a dedicated committee of 10 volunteers. Every year we host open days, exhibitions, talks and other events; we have published two books and hold an extensive collection of digitised photographs and postcards of local scenes, events and people and assist with numerous enquiries from genealogy researchers from all around the world.
