592 Years and Not Out: A Short History of the Haill Six Incorporated Trades of Kirkcudbright

When & Where

Kirkcudbright History Society
Wednesday, 8 February 2017 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Parish Church Hall, St Mary Street, Kirkcudbright, DG6 4DN

Event Details

Presentation by Ian McIntyre.

The “Trades” have been well documented over these years and have had many illustrious people accepted as members. The widely known local artist E. A. Hornel was a member as can be seen in the painting done by Archibald Hartrick which is in the Tolbooth Arts Centre. Here he is accompanied by Mounsey and MGeorge. Mounsey died in 1901 so this painting must have been done prior to that date.

The “Siller Gun” owned and competed for by the Trades is probably one of the earliest sporting trophies still existing.
Their recent history includes the involvement of women when Provost Lesley Garbutt was admitted into the organisation as their first woman member in 2016.
