Event Details

Dr Adrian Maldonado will be giving a talk on Zoom titled Crucible of Nations: Scotland from Viking Age to Medieval Kingdom.

The kingdom of Scotland, Alba, emerged about a thousand years ago, with its heartlands in the Forth and Tay zone. It was beset on all sides by rival kingdoms speaking a variety of languages A three-year research project into the collections of National Museums Scotland, supported by The Glenmorangie Company, has reassessed the artefacts from the 9-12th centuries to answer the question of how the kingdom of Scotland eventually emerged. They reveal a surprising new vision of this era. Dr Maldonado will summarise his findings, recently published as a new book, "Crucible of Nations: Scotland from Viking Age to Medieval Kingdom".
