Event Details

Have you ever wondered about our local place-names?

In 1724 the Gaelic language was spoken around here for more than 1000 years, so it's not surprising that most of our place-names are Gaelic. Today we use these place-names almost as signposts to navigate whilst going about our daily business, however, to the people who created them they originally had real meanings. Once we can decipher these place-names we can use them to study local history, and show how people in the past used and viewed their landscape.

Dr. McNiven uncovers this remarkable evidence, cracks the place-name codes, unravels their fascinating hidden secrets and their often surprising forgotten meanings.

Why not combine your visit with a superb bar meal served in our fabulous Heritage Centre in the Black Bull? For reservations call 01877 382 054
