BBC - WW1 Scotland and the Home Front

The BBC are conducting research for a series on World War One on the home front in Scotland. They are interested in any stories you may have about places in Scotland that have a World War One story to tell on the following themes:

  • Soldiers from elsewhere in the Commonwealth
  • Women – changing roles, factory work, social mobility
  • War in the air – eg Zeppelin raids, development of aviation industry
  • War at sea – eg shipbuilding, submarines, supply lines
  • The Home Front – eg rationing, faith, drinking, food production, conscientious objection, refugees, protest, spies, experiences of children
  • Arts and media – poetry, music, literature, entertainment during wartime
  • Memorials and commemoration – eg stories of local war memorials
  • Medicine and hospitals. Medical innovation
  • Technology – eg development of weapons, radio, photography, communications
  • Sport – impact on teams, sport during wartime
  • Politics – local government, trade unions
