About this Resource

Archives (reference BML) of William Pollock 'Bill' McLaren CBE (1923-2010), Scottish rugby union commentator, teacher and journalist, known as 'the voice of rugby'. His records of commentary, called Big Sheets, are accompanied by programmes, notes and players' biographical information for about 1,250 matches covered by McLaren, from league, cup and sevens matches to internationals. The archive covers from about 1930 to about 2006. The records are held on behalf of The Bill McLaren Foundation.
