Kilwinning Heritage

About this Organisation

Kilwinning Heritage was founded in 2011 and currently has around 70 members. We are a local history and archaeological society. Our aims are to stimulate public interest in, and encourage the conservation of the heritage, history and character of the local area, and to pursue these ends by talks, events, visits, research, and publications. Our volunteers staff the Abbey Tower Heritage Centre, maintained by North Ayrshire Council, and set in the precincts of the 12th century Kilwinning Abbey. We carry out small-scale archaeological projects and we have an on-going archive project aimed at preserving and digitising around 20,000 legal documents, dating from the late 18th to the 20th century.
Our website has a wealth of historical information and we also have a wide range of out-of-print books available for free download as well as an online shop where our own publications are for sale. Membership costs £5pa, and new members are welcome to join via the website.
