Fourth Statistical Account of East Lothian

About this Resource

The first Statistical Account of Scotland was published between 1791 and 1799, with the intention of providing a complete survey of the country. The Statistical Account included information about the geography, history, economy and agriculture of most parishes in Scotland. The second or New Statistical Account of Scotland was compiled between 1832 and 1845. Following the Third Statistical Account in 1953, East Lothian appears to be one of the first Scottish counties to bring the run of Statistical Accounts up to the present century.
