About this Resource

Historic-Hospitals.com is a wordpress site comprising a gazetteer of hospitals in Scotland, arranged alphabetically, by county/region, giving a brief account of the history of each site, with maps and photographs. Gazetteers for England, Wales and Northern Ireland are in progress. The site was created and is maintained by Harriet Richardson, an architectural historian, Honorary Research Associate, University College London. The website was originally intended to make the research which she conducted on the history and development of hospitals in Scotland and England publicly available. Since launching in 2015 it has expanded to include blog posts on particular sites or themes. The site is fully searchable, and there is an option for public engagement through comments.
