Mitchell Library - Special Collections

About this Resource

The Mitchell Library has a number of Special Collections that have been acquired through purchase, donation or bequest since it opened in 1877. These are unique or valuable or reflect their social, cultural and/or historical significance, and include material relating to Glasgow, early printed books, manuscripts; photographs, chapbooks, miniature books, Private Press books, Scottish Poetry and the Robert Burns Collection. The Mitchell is a public library, free and open to all, and many of the donors have presented items in the knowledge that they would be used for the benefit of the people of Glasgow. However, many items in our collections now attract enquiries and visitors to The Mitchell from far beyond the city due to their significance. Our Collections A-Z lists some of our collections. We will be updating this list regularly.
