Event Details
The next meeting of the Kirkcudbright History Society will feature a talk on John Mactaggart, not only the author of the informative, but controversial ‘Gallovidian Encyclopaedia,’ but also an accomplished civil engineer, playwright, poet, and an all-round fascinating individual. The talk will feature his biography, an examination of the Encyclopaedia published in 1824, his interaction with another interesting Borgue character, the poet William Nicholson, and his involvement in the building of the Rideau Canal resulting in another publication entitled ‘Three Years in Canada.’
