In this presentation Emma Maxwell, genealogist at scottishindexes.com, will show you how to use the Scottish census to the full.

If you have ever struggled to find an ancestor in the census, Emma’s insights could help you track them down. She will also share some money-saving tips which are especially helpful when searching the 1911 Scottish census.

Emma will also look ahead to what we can expect with the release of the 1921 Scottish census. She has been searching the census long before it went online and her early searches in the General Register Office for Scotland involved spending hours searching through the census on microfilm.

This laborious search was useful, though. Emma says, “Searching the census page by page gives you a feel for the parish. You get to see each family in context and build up a full picture of the entire record set.”
