Pugmill Press is pleased to announce the inaugural Pugmill Press Hidden Gem Prizes for local history writing. This will celebrate the very best in local history writing and research. There are two categories which may be entered: the Essay Prize and the Synopsis Prize.

The Essay Prize will be awarded to the best essay between 1,500 and 2,000 words in length. This can be written on any subject related to local history.
The Synopsis Prize will be awarded for the best 300-word synopsis in relation to a book proposal on a local history topic.
The prize for the essay writing competition is £75 and publication in a forthcoming compendium. The prize for the synopsis competition is £25 and a publication agreement with Pugmill Press.

How to Enter

Pugmill Press is seeking the very best in new local history writing. Whether you are an established author or an unpublished writer, if you have a compelling story to tell we want to hear from you. To enter, please send your entries by email to pugmillpress@gmail.com stating in the email title your name and either ‘Essay Prize Entry’ or ‘Synopsis Prize Entry’.

The closing date for entries to both competitions is 22nd March 2022. There is no entry fee for participating in the competition and we thank you for your hard work.
